In fact, according to the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, meat consumption nationwide has decreased 12% since 2007–and more people are searching for information on vegan eating.

Vegan BakingMove over saturated fat and cholesterol; there are two new health culprits in town that are linked to raising heart disease risk. Last month, news circulated widely about one of these culprits when research revealed how consumption of l-carnitine, found abundantly in red meat as well as in dairy, fish and chicken, plays a significant role in the development of heart disease.

In addition, just last week, a new study revealed that through a similar process, lecithin, found in eggs, also raises heart disease risk.

This pipeline, which has been called a “game over for the environment,” would connect the tar sands extraction project in Alberta, Canada with various points across the US, allowing Alberta to ramp up oil extraction. It’s widely considered a major threat to our environment — but what about the carbon footprint of the rally?

Chipotle Launches Vegan Sofritas Burrito in San Francisco Bay Area

Starting February 12, seven select San Francisco-area Chipotle restaurants will be dishing out new vegan Sofritas for burritos, tacos, bowls, and salads.

What exactly is Sofritas? It’s shredded tofu (non-GMO from Hodo Soy Beanery) braised with chipotle chiles, roasted poblano peppers, and spices made from tofu. While it was developed specifically to cater the growing number of vegetarian and vegan diners, the company believes it will have a broader appeal to all customers.
