There are 52 weeks in a year, why not make at least one of them meat-free?

Now in its fifth year, US VegWeek (April 22-28) is a fun way to explore a wide variety of meat-free foods and discover the many benefits of vegetarian eating—for our health, the planet, and animals. While last year’s event was a huge success that changed many hearts and minds, this year’s celebration, kicking off on Earth Day, will be bigger and better than ever!

Join the thousands of people nationwide—including elected officials and community leaders—by pledging to choose vegetarian foods for at least seven days.

It’s easy: simply take our 7-Day VegPledge and you’ll get a free Vegetarian Starter Guide loaded with recipes and product coupons. From April 22-28 you’ll also receive a daily e-mail filled with meal ideas, trivia, tips, and more. Already vegetarian? Then pledge to go vegan. And don’t forget to TWEET or SHARE our Facebook page to ask your friends and family to pledge, too!

BONUS: Pledge now and you could win one of hundreds of raffle prizes from our corporate sponsors – free veg products, DVDs, vegan cookbooks, and more.

If you’re looking for even more ways to get involved, host a US VegWeek event in your community, such as a potluck, bake sale, cooking demo, movie screening, book discussion, or feed-in. Or, reach out to your local restaurants to encourage them to offer a US VegWeek special, such as discounting vegan options, offering a new vegan item, or hosting a benefit for COK.

Compassion Over Killing launched our VegWeek campaign in 2009 in Takoma Park, Maryland (our hometown) thanks to the inspiration of MD Senator Jamie Raskin. Sen. Raskin suggested the idea and then was the first person to sign up for our 7-day Veg Pledge—a pledge he’s kept to this day—and VegWeek was officially recognized by our city through a Mayoral Proclamation.

Energized by his new vegetarian diet, which he refers to as “aligning my morals with my menu,” Sen. Raskin has since helped COK expand our VegWeek campaign, first to entire state of Maryland in 2010 then to Virginia, DC, and California in 2011, and nationwide in 2012 (see photos here).

Choosing vegetarian foods is an easy and delicious way to protect animals, the environment, and our health. Get started today by visiting USVegWeek.com!
