UPDATE 10/28/16: Wow! The Herbivorous Butcher has won the “popular vote,” named by USA Today readers the BEST Food & Drink Maker in the USA!

A popular all-vegan butcher shop is up for a coveted win in USA Today’s 10Best Reader’s Choice Awards. With just one week left to cast your vote, The Herbivorous Butcher stands at #1 on the leaderboard for Best Food & Drink Makers in the USA!

Now that’s deli-cious news!

USA Today writes of the plant-based shop: “Products are made in small batches from locally sourced ingredients with a high protein content to aid in satiety. Options available online include vegan deli meats and cheeses, jerky, bacon, steaks, brats, ribs and chicken.”

Vegan brother and sister duo Aubry and Kale Walch opened The Herbivorous Butcher to provide realistic and ‘tastefully accurate’ meat alternatives to vegans and vegetarians around the country,” adds USA Today.

But the Minnesota-based shop that opened in January 2016 (and ships nationwide!) isn’t appealing only to vegans and vegetarians; it’s changing the way many think about deli “meats” — something that the meat industry knows all too well. In a defensive response, a blog ran in The National Hog Farmer went so far as to call the vegan butcher shop “unethical!”

But from the long lines of happy customers choosing the plant-based “meats” at The Herbivorous Butcher, to USA Today readers voting in agreement, and the shop even landing a spot on the usually meat-filled Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives: the people have spoken! More and more consumers are voting with their dollars for meat alternatives that they feel are ethical — ones that leave animals off their plates.
