We’re excited to announce that this past weekend at the 2013 Animal Rights National Conference, Animal Outlook’s Executive Director Erica Meier was honored with the prestigious Animal Rights Hall of Fame award.

This annual award recognizes leaders in our movement who have spearheaded major advancements for animals in the U.S. Previous recipients include Peter Singer, Bruce Friedrich, Paul Shapiro, Ingrid Newkirk and many more.

Erica has served as Animal Outlook’s Executive Director since 2005, after having been actively involved as a volunteer since 2000. Since taking the helm, Erica has taken the organization to new heights with continued growth and accomplishments for animals that include ending the egg industry’s use of the misleading claim “Animal Care Certified,” successfully working with BOCA foods to stop using eggs, receiving national and international media coverage for undercover investigations, and launching a nationwide pro-vegetarian commercial campaign on cable networks and HULU.com.

Vegan for nearly 20 years, Erica has been active in animal advocacy since high school. Before joining Animal Outlook, Erica spent several years as an animal control officer in Washington, DC where she rescued sick, stray and homeless animals as well as enforced animal protection laws.

The entire dedicated team at Animal Outlook is proud to be part of this historic movement, and we’re proud to have you standing with us. As Erica expressed in her acceptance speech:

“There is strength in numbers and by all us of working together today, we can – and we are – building a more compassionate tomorrow.”
