Last year, we shared the news about Subway’s vegan test menu in eight DC-area locations that was so popular, stores ran out of the vegan patties within a few short weeks. Several of the restaurant managers told us the vegan menu was tremendously successful, and they’ve been eager to satisfy customer demand by putting heartier and healthier plant-based option back on the menu.

You’ve probably been hearing the buzz and soon you’ll get to see what the rave reviews are all about: the award-winning documentary The Ghosts in our Machine may soon hit US theaters in select markets.
Meatless Monday Recipe: Samosa Pizzas
When The Sexy Vegan — that would be the affable Brian Patton — started dating his now-wife, he wooed her with Friday night happy hours at her apartment or his. When their friends heard of the lovely summer evenings they were having, the happy hours expanded, both in terms of the number of guests and the types of tapas.
“Are You Smarter than a Chicken?” Toddler Edition
When my adorable niece was just a toddler, I was blown away by her intellectual capabilities. When she mastered a new concept, such as spatial reasoning, enough to match a shaped block to a corresponding hole on a toy, a silence filled the room and jaws hit the floor. She was so smart, and we were thrilled to watch her develop.
Yet as smart as she was, it turns out she may have been no match for a chicken.
One Year Later: Vegan Options at Subway?
Through Compassion Over Killing’s campaign website, WeLoveSubway.com, thousands of consumers have been urging Subway – the world’s largest restaurant chain – to offer more substantial protein-packed vegan meals. The First-Ever Rehoboth Beach VegFest a Success!
On Sat., June 1, 2013 over 600 people joined us at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach, DE to celebrate vegetarian foods during the first-ever Rehoboth Beach VegFest. Festival-goers spent the day indulging in vegan food, listening to speakers, browsing the vendor shops, and enjoying the gorgeous weather.
Even before the festival opened, dozens of eager attendees walked around to visit the over 35 exhibitor booths. Within the first half an hour of the festival opening, volunteers had distributed all 300 of our free goodie bags, filled with free products, coupons, and other items from our sponsors to excited attendees.
Veg Advocacy at the Office
The Washington Post recently wrote about our friends at the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), highlighting the organization’s healthy workplace culture and vegan office policies. PCRM, which promotes plant-based eating as preventative medicine, also encourages vegan recipe exchanges and food sharing (people take turns making smoothies certain mornings.) Why implement these initiatives? PCRM Director of Nutrition Education Susan Levin says simply, “We want to practice what we preach.”
