This week, environmental activists from around the world will join former Vice President Al Gore in Chicago for training through the Climate Reality Project. It’s a three-day summit focusing on public speaking, community organizing, and the latest climate science, with the expectation that in the next year, they’ll each host their own climate-related events and submit articles to newspapers about this important issue.

There’s a trend that seems to be reverberating through sectors of animal agribusiness: declining sales. We recently wrote about how Americans are drinking less and less milk with each new generation. And remember the Mark Bittman piece examining how beef, chicken and pork consumption has been plummeting in the past several years? And per capita egg consumption in the US has also been steadily declining for the past six years. This is all good news for animals – and it opens up opportunities for us to introduce more people to the vegan versions of some our favorite foods, such as hot dogs.

This annual award recognizes leaders in our movement who have spearheaded major advancements for animals in the US. Previous recipients include Peter Singer, Bruce Friedrich, Paul Shapiro, Ingrid Newkirk, and many more.

Rehoboth Beach VegFestOn Sat., June 1, 2013 over 600 people joined us at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach, DE to celebrate vegetarian foods during the first-ever Rehoboth Beach VegFest. Festival-goers spent the day indulging in vegan food, listening to speakers, browsing the vendor shops, and enjoying the gorgeous weather.

Even before the festival opened, dozens of eager attendees walked around to visit the over 35 exhibitor booths. Within the first half an hour of the festival opening, volunteers had distributed all 300 of our free goodie bags, filled with free products, coupons, and other items from our sponsors to excited attendees.
