For ice cream lovers, Ben & Jerry’s is the holy grail of decadent dessert delights. Known for its mouthwatering flavor combos and catchy concepts (The Tonight Dough, anyone?), the ever-popular ice creamery has earned a cult following for a very good reason: it knows its way around a pint.
Vegans, however, have been out of luck when it comes to indulging in Ben & Jerry’s frozen treats. But not anymore — four vegan flavors have finally made their debut: Chunky Monkey, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Coffee Caramel Fudge, and P.B. & Cookies. Made with almond milk, the first two are vegan versions of current B&J flavors; the other two are brand new.
Here’s the scoop on your flavor options:
- Chocolate Fudge Brownie: chocolate with fudge brownies from Greyston Bakery
- Chunky Monkey: banana with fudge chunks and walnuts
- Coffee Caramel Fudge: coffee with fudge chunks and caramel swirl
- P.B. & Cookies: Vanilla with chocolate sandwich cookies
Reportedly, the company went through LOTS of iterations before deciding on these concoctions. Now, Ben & Jerry’s joins companies like Blue Bunny, So Delicious Dairy Free and Steve’s Ice Cream in making dairy-free deliciousness.
Since the announcement was made, the internet has been on fire, with every major media outlet covering the release. The ice creams are supposed to hit shelves midway through this month — so keep checking your grocer’s freezer.
With non-dairy milks now accounting for 20 percent of the overall market, Ben & Jerry’s makes a wise choice — for consumers, for animals and for the environment.
