More and more consumers are trying veg, and as demand for plant-based options continues to grow, the food industry is looking to get in on this meat-free market.
QSR recently suggested that brands can improve their restaurants by ‘inviting vegans‘ with menu items. And the new “Top Trends in Prepared Foods 2017” report by research firm Global Data offers companies the same tip.
The report, which lists “Go Meat-Free” and “Ethical Eating” among its six key trends in prepared foods innovation, attributes the growing demand for meat-free foods to “rising veganism and awareness of the impact of meat consumption” and that “consumers connect ethical and sustainable lifestyles with wellbeing and wellness.”
Awareness of the impacts of animal agriculture and consuming animal products is indeed growing, as consumers grow increasingly concerned over farm animal welfare and risks to our health.
In fact, Global Data’s new report shows that veganism has sprouted by 600% in the US just since 2014! And in Germany, 44% of people said they choose a meat-free diet.
