Dunkin’ Donuts is the world’s largest coffee and baked goods chain serving more than three million customers daily. It offers over 65 varieties of doughnuts — including two heart-shaped specials for Valentine’s Day: Cupid’s Choice and Brownie Batter.
Sounds like a sweet deal, until you discover that these heart-shaped specials along with every other doughnut dished out by Dunkin’ are made with egg and dairy products from factory-farmed animals.
The good news is that Dunkin’ has taken steps to address some very important animal welfare issues. Last year, the company announced its commitment to begin moving away from the use of eggs from hens confined inside tiny wire battery cages.
The company also recognizes the need to offer a variety of dietary options to its diverse customer-base and is now testing out a gluten-free menu in select stores throughout Boston and Miami.
Despite this progress – and despite feedback from thousands of consumers – Dunkin’ is still dragging its feet when it comes to offering vegan options.
Here’s what you can do: Ask Dunkin’ to have a heart for animals by making its heart shaped donuts without eggs or milk.
- Please call the company today: 1-800-859-5339
- Then send a polite email
Be sure to let Dunkin’ know that vegan options are increasingly in demand across the U.S. as demonstrated by the heart-healthy and animal-friendly menus being tested and introduced by other national restaurant chains including Chipotle and Subway – and you can even grab a vegan sandwich at several 7-Eleven stores.
