Dunkin’ Donuts’ former Chief Marketing Officer, Glenn Bacheller, just penned a letter to current Dunkin’ CEO David Hoffmann, with a clear message: “make a statement and be the first major chain offer a vegan donut.”

Bacheller, who went on to become President of Baskin-Robbins, a sister company of the donut chain, states that he was vegan even while working for one of the world’s largest ice cream companies. He encourages Hoffman, just named CEO this summer, to help craft a more compassionate, sustainable, and healthy world by ditching dairy and egg ingredients and rolling out a fully vegan donut.

“In 2014, Dunkin’ made great strides by becoming the latest top coffee chain to offer a plant based milk option after hearing from thousands of Compassion Over Killing’s supporters,” says Glenn Bacheller in his letter to Dunkin CEO, “Your recent addition of a gluten free brownie shows the value of appealing to diverse customers.”

Dunkin’ has already shown that they’re willing to listen to consumers. In response to a Compassion Over Killing campaign, they began pouring out almond milk as a non-dairy option along with other coffee chains like Tim Hortons and Starbucks. But now they’re beginning to fall behind.
