For all those wondering how vegans live “without” cheese, get excited – you’re finally about to get an answer. We don’t! There’s already a huge variety of  vegan cheese available to the mainstream, but recently, plant-based companies have stepped their game up. Now there are three cruelty-free companies spoiling us with hand crafted artisan delights— and during our taste-test, they IMPRESSED. We’d confidently serve these cheesy choices to anyone – omnivores welcome!

Miyoko’s Kitchen: From the author of Artisan Vegan Cheese, pictured at right, comes this new line including nine decadent and aromatic flavors such as Classic Double Cream Chive, High Sierra Rustic Alpine, Fresh Loire Valley in a Fig Leaf, Limited Edition Mt. Vesuvius Black Ash, French Style Winter Truffle, and more. Serve them as a cheese board with fruit, crackers, or a baguette, or transform a classic comfort food into a foodie experience with recipes like Truffle Mac. We promise your palate will be pleased!

Field Roast’s Chao Cheese: The beloved gourmet grain meat company has expanded into our favorite category: cheese! Rich and creamy Chao Cheese is made from coconut and a fermented soybean curd from Asia that the Vietnamese call “Chao.” The cheeses—Creamy Original, Coconut Herb (with cracked black pepper), and Tomato Cayenne (with spicy peppers)—are made in small batches and formed by hand, giving them a soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture that any cheese lover can appreciate.

Follow Your Heart: They stole our hearts with Vegenaise, vegan blue cheese dressing, and an array of vegan cheese (they’ve been in the game a while). Now this dairy-free expert is spoiling us with new versions of four traditional flavors—Provolone, American, Mozzarella, and Garden Herb—that taste more authentic than ever. We were especially floored by the Provolone, which was reminiscent of French bread, checkered blankets, and picnics in the park. The new cheeses (soy-free and non-GMO) come in blocks and slices, and will debut in 2015.
