Taste Test: The New Subway Beyond Meatball Marinara Sub

After years of campaigning by Compassion Over Killing, the day has finally come. Subway has launched its partnership with Beyond Meat and debuted a vegan meatball marinara sub in select locations, and COK’s Senior Director of Campaigns and Corporate Outreach, Laura Cascada, was one of the first to try it.

Though this is a limited test, Subway has told us to “keep an eye out for nationwide coming soon!”

“It’s really good,” Laura said after tasting the sandwich on Facebook Live, “The guy who was making the sub for me told me that he doesn’t think that there’s really any difference in taste between the Beyond Meat and regular [animal] meat.”

“This is so important,” she continues, “There are millions of people who are visiting these chains every day and may have never tried vegan options before. So by putting these options front and center on menus, these chains are making vegan options accessible to millions of people.”

Subway offers an array of vegan bread and toppings, so ordering the Beyond meatball sub was easy. Just leave off the (non-vegan) cheese and add whatever veggies you want!

The sub is currently offered at participating restaurants in Jackson, Mississippi; South Bend-Elkhart, Indiana; Fresno-Visalia, California; Louisville, Kentucky; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada.

Do you live near any of these? Try the sub for yourself. And when you do, don’t forget to tag us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter to be featured on the Compassion Over Killing page!
