Vegan Carnival Favorites Debut at Knott’s Berry Farm

As a Southern California native, I grew up going to Knott’s Berry Farm, a quaint amusement park that boasted Snoopy as its mascot, stomach-dropping roller coasters, a Halloween-themed fright fest, a wild west-era Ghost Town, and of course, delicious, albeit unhealthy carnival snacks such as funnel cake and buttered popcorn. Though it’s been a while since I’ve visited, I now have an excuse to go back: all those foods associated with my childhood memories have now been veganized!

Thanks to the Healthy Voyager — also known as Carolyn Scott-Hamilton, who developed the recipes and reached out to Knott’s — America’s first theme park, along with the adjoined Soak City water park, will offer gluten-free and vegan pizza, burgers, hot dogs, soy-free baked mac n’ cheese, “buttermilk” battered “chicken” tenders, and even a tofu scramble for brunch. That’s a great list to power up any person needing a recharge in between Montezooma’s Revenge and the Sierra Sidewinder.

And of course, a carnival isn’t a carnival without funnel cakes, so be sure to save room to devour a vegan and gluten-free version of Knott’s famous funnel cakes, topped with vegan whipped cream.

While many of these items are already on the Knott’s menus, more will continue to be rolled out throughout summer, so be sure to ask for details when visiting the park. Just make sure to eat AFTER the Rip Tide and Supreme Scream!
