For years, Compassion Over Killing (COK) has led public education, legislative outreach, legal advocacy, and corporate campaigns for animals. In that time, we have helped countless people discover the benefits of choosing vegetarian foods, and supported them with free resources such as starter guides, recipes, meal ideas, and several local veg dining guides.

In addition to educating others about vegetarian eating, we also make it top priority to motivate and empower other advocates to effectively speak out for animals.

Running for Her Life: One Cow’s Fight for Freedom

smcdonaldUncategorized 2 Comments

n late May, Yvonne, a six-year-old slaughter-bound cow, escaped from a German farm and ran for her life.

In her quest for freedom, she spent nearly 100 days hiding in the forests of Bavaria. Garnering international attention, she eluded capture by police, farmers, countless good samaritans and animal advocates, and hunters (until authorities called off the “hunt”). Some joined the search in hopes of taking home a $14,500 reward offered by Bild, a German tabloid. A radio station rented a helicopter equipped with thermal imaging cameras, animal advocates tried to lure her with a bull ox, her sister, and her son while animal psychics attempted to talk with her — all to no avail.

cnn-the-last-heart-attack-500x279.jpgCNN recently aired a one-hour special, hosted by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, exploring the causes of and various treatments for America’s number one killer: heart disease. As he talks with medical experts as well as patients suffering from heart disease, and after spending a year investigating the issue, Dr. Gupta concludes that “with what we know right now, we could see the last heart attack in America.”

He’s referring to a “food-based prescription” that could save lives, and he sums it up by suggesting we should eat “nothing with a mother, nothing with a face.”
