Every animal trapped in industrial agriculture is someone — not something. Thanks to supporters like you, our investigators and legal team are confronting the factory farm system and making sure its victims are not kept hidden from the public eye.
This work is systemic — but we do this work for the individual chickens, pigs, cows, and other farmed animals whose lives and suffering matter.
Chickens — Foster Farms and the Cost of “Efficiency”
In California, an Animal Outlook investigator joined a chicken catching crew working for Foster Farms. What they documented was a system that treats birds as cargo — not as living beings.
Crews worked grueling overnight shifts lasting up to 18 hours. Workers grabbed multiple chickens at once and crammed them into transport crates and trucks with no regard for their well-being. Multiple instances of forklifts driving over or hitting live birds were documented, as well as chickens with their heads or wings stuck between cage door frames. The priority was speed and volume — getting as many birds as possible onto trucks, as fast as possible.
Animal Outlook submitted the footage and a detailed legal analysis to the Fresno County District Attorney, urging criminal animal cruelty charges against those responsible — including Foster Farms as a corporation. This case makes one thing undeniable — every tray of chicken comes from individuals who were never given a chance to live anything like a natural life.

Pigs — Holden Farms and Routine Neglect
In Utica, Minnesota, Animal Outlook exposed conditions at Holden Farms, a major pig breeding operation supplying some of the largest pork companies in the United States. The investigation revealed repeated and routine abuse and neglect, inflicting suffering on countless pigs. Our investigator filmed often-botched attempts to gas to death sick or injured piglets and piglets subjected to castration via testicles being ripped out by hand without pain relief. Dozens of incidents of hitting, kicking, slapping, punching, beating with a paddle, or roughly handling pigs were also documented.
Based on this evidence, Animal Outlook believes Holden Farms violated multiple state laws. The case demonstrates that cruelty is not an accident or a one-time event — it is baked into the design of high-volume pork production, where breeding pigs and their piglets are treated as production units, not as thinking, feeling individuals.

Cows — Manning Beef and the Reality of Slaughter
At Manning Beef LLC in Pico Rivera, California, an undercover investigation between October and December 2024 captured some of the most disturbing evidence in Animal Outlook’s 30 year history.
Footage showed cows appearing conscious while being butchered, repeated improper stunning, and excessive use of electric prods on downed animals. Investigators also documented discarded unborn calf fetuses from pregnant cows sent to slaughter. These findings point to violations without qualification of the federal Humane Methods of Slaughter Act and California state law — and to a system that pushes animals past the edge of what their bodies and minds can endure.
Behind every “beef” label is an individual cow — someone who felt fear, pain, and a desperate instinct to survive.
