Part cookbook, part nutritional guide, part entertaining read, Simple Happy Kitchen is an illustrated how-to for veganism and a plant-based diet. Starring Pedro Almondovar, a likeable roasted almond, this colorful, easy-to-read volume will help guide you through your transition to veg eating in the most adorable way.
The comprehensive book covers everything from egg replacements to feeding vegan kids to the effect of animal agriculture on our environment to reading ingredient labels. While it’s an informative introduction to veganism and plant-based eating, it isn’t just for newbies. Even long-time herbivores can use it as a one-stop shop for all things vegan. It even includes a reference guide for those sneaky non-vegan ingredients you may have to Google sometimes.
The book also includes tons of simple but mouthwatering recipes for meals and snacks like soy ricotta, chocolate mousse, and veggie burgers. There are even full meal plan ideas for anyone hoping to raise their protein, calcium, or iron intake.
Don’t worry, if you forget how long to soak chickpeas or are wondering about the best way to pack in protein, this book has you covered. Plus, you can rest easy knowing that the book was written in collaboration with a clinical dietitian to ensure information is fun and factual.
The project began on Kickstarter and is now more than 1000% funded, having reached $200,000 in just over a month. Designer Miki Mottes was able to reach out to Kickstarter backers for input and respond to what they wanted to see in the book. The result is an approachable book full of facts you didn’t even know you needed to know. It manages to pack in tons of information while still remaining fun, readable, and straight-forward.
Simple Happy Kitchen will be published on June 25 and is available for preorder here.
