Holiday CheerWe’ve already had a busy season, but with winter festivities approaching, Compassion Over Killing’s Los Angeles volunteers gathered in front of the popular Whole Foods Market in Santa Monica for one final 2011 feed-in–to spread holiday cheer and introduce shoppers to the variety of humane holiday refreshments available today.

Despite the chill in the air, Kelly Boston, Lesa Miller, Jose Berber, Ken Seino, Jessica Resnick, Cindy Bauman, and Beau Bauman (the 4-year old vegan is our youngest volunteer yet!) handed out more than 200 samples of So Delicious’ new seasonal coconut milks in nog and mint chocolate, along with copies of Compassionate Choices and Easy Vegan Recipes. They also distributed a number of So Delicious coupons, which many people used right away. Just 10 minutes after one person entered the store with his coupon, he came back with a proud smile to show us he had purchased the products.

Many people commented on the creaminess of the texture, and how they appreciated an egg-free option to counter high cholesterol. Others thought that the coconut milk alternatives would taste even better mixed with alcohol than the dairy-based versions: “These are rich and flavorful, but lack the heaviness of milk and eggs that can make you nauseous when drinking.”

Both the nog and mint chocolate flavors are only offered seasonally, so you have just a few more weeks to indulge. Whether you enjoy them mixed to create an adult beverage or as-they-come, they’re sure to enliven your holiday spirit. ‘Tis the season for compassion, after all.
