Last Heart AttackCNN recently aired a one-hour special, hosted by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, exploring the causes of and various treatments for America’s number one killer: heart disease. As he talks with medical experts as well as patients suffering from heart disease, and after spending a year investigating the issue, Dr. Gupta concludes that “with what we know right now, we could see the last heart attack in America.”

He’s referring to a “food-based prescription” that could save lives, and he sums it up by suggesting we should eat “nothing with a mother, nothing with a face.”

During this powerful program, which can now be viewed online at CNN.com, viewers hear first-hand about former President Bill Clinton’s transformation from fast-food junkie to health-conscious vegan. Viewers are also introduced to several doctors who call attention to the power of food — and how our food choices can prevent, and in some cases actually, reverse heart disease.

Referring to heart disease as a “foodborne illness,” Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, author of Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, explains that “we’re never going to end the epidemic with stents, with bypasses, with the drugs because none of it is treating causation of the illness.”

According to Dr. Terry Mason, chief medical officer at Chicago’s Cook County Hospitals “we’ve eaten our way into a problem and we can eat ourselves out of it.”

“The Last Heart Attack” is an eye-opening special worth sharing with friends and family. Everytime we choose a meat-, egg-, and dairy-free meal, we’re not only helping save our own lives — we’re helping save the lives of billions of birds, pigs, cows, and other animals raised and killed for food each year in the United States.
