Despite some not-so-shiny weather, an enthusiastic crowd joined the fun, including many who lined up hours early to get their commemorative tote bag packed with goodies from our sponsors.
Vegans and pre-vegans alike came together at this free event, enjoying delicious plant-based foods (including free samples!), renowned celebrity speakers, live music, kids’ activities, dog-friendly fun, and so much more.
Kicking off the day with an energetic welcome was our Emcee, vegan rapper Grey. He kept the crowd cheering and dancing, along with DC’s Malik Dope Drummer. Watch them perform Grey’s viral hit “Vegan Thanksgiving“!
Inspiring keynote speakers included:
- David Carter (former NFL player & The 300-Pound Vegan)
- Miyoko Schinner (founder/CEO of Miyoko’s Kitchen)
- Rep. Jamie Raskin (US Congressman)
- Kathy Stevens (Founder, Catskill animal Sanctuary)
- Eddie Garza ((Senior Mgr. of Food & Nutrition, HSUS; author of “¡Salud! Vegan Mexican Cookbook”)
- Doron Petersan (owner of DC’s Sticky Fingers Sweets & Eats and FareWell)
An inspiring energy was felt through the festival — from the main stage, to the music tent with live performances, to the kids’ zone which also featured speakers, cooking demos including COK’s own Jessica Carter, a moonbounce, and so much more.
More than 115 vendors and exhibitors, offered festival-goers an endless opportunity to eat and explore, including Vegan Treats, Busboys and Poets, Roots Market, Treeline Treenut Cheese, MOM’s Organic Market, Dr. Bronner’s, The Stanford Inn by the Sea, Dr. Ruby’s Organics, Plant Based Drippin, A Well-Fed Word, FARM, Veg Society of DC, Proveg International, Mothers Against Dairy, and many more.
In addition to generating excitement and interest in vegan eating, the DC VegFest has also been generating extensive media coverage before, during, and after the event, including feature stories on ABC-7 Good Morning Washington, Fox-5 Good Day DC, and News-8 Let’s Talk Live as well as coverage by Thrillist, K Street Magazine, The List Are You On It and many more.
The 2017 DC VegFest may be over, but you can relive and SHARE the fun through our photo albums on Flickr and Facebook!
