Vegan eating can have a powerful, positive impact not only on animals and the planet, but on our health, too.  And research finds that a shift toward plant-based foods can also fight hunger.

A new study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that if the United States went vegan, it could feed millions more people, while the food production would also use less land.

The research concludes, “Replacing all animal-based items with plant-based replacement diets can add enough food to feed 350 million additional people.”

That would total 120% of the US population!

The study further states that this shift would have a greater impact on reducing hunger than even eliminating all food waste from supply chains.

As A Well-Fed World, a hunger relief and animal protection organization, points out, “Of the world’s more than seven billion people, more than 840 million are counted as suffering from chronic hunger.”

By choosing vegan foods, we can help fight hunger, resource depletion, and environmental degradation, and help save the lives of animals.
