Lisa Winebarger Joins Animal Outlook’s Board of Directors

Public interest attorney brings extensive impact litigation, policy research and development,  nonprofit strategy and executive management experience

Los Angeles, CA — July 6, 2021 — Animal Outlook today announced that Lisa Winebarger has joined its board of directors. She joins board chair Amy Trakinski, one of the nation’s first practitioners of animal law and current managing director of mission-driven venture capital fund VegInvest, and board member Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni, award-winning entrepreneur, activist, investor and advisor to businesses and governments around the world.

“We are delighted to welcome Lisa to our board of directors,” said Animal Outlook’s Executive Director Cheryl Leahy. “Lisa served as an attorney and executive team member at Animal Outlook from 2012-2016, when she conducted groundbreaking litigation and strategic and programmatic building that is instrumental to the work we do today. We’re grateful to  her for bringing her exceptional skill and creativity to serve as a part of our board.”

LisaCurrently, Lisa serves as the program director of policy and general counsel at The Greenfield Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2017 committed to improving animal agriculture in the United States. In this role, she works to identify promising policy-based vehicles for improving farmed animal welfare, with a view toward finding win-win solutions that benefit animals, consumers, farmers and the environment. Prior to joining Greenfield, Lisa worked for several public interest organizations, including Animal Outlook, the Alliance for Children’s Rights and the Humane Society of the United States. 

Lisa has extensive experience conducting legal and fact-based research aimed at understanding complex systems to find opportunities to advocate for vulnerable and underrepresented populations. She received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia and her law degree from the American University Washington College of Law, where she was a student attorney with the Disability Rights Law Clinic, served as associate executive editor of the American University International Law Review and graduated with honors. She is licensed to practice law in California and Hawaii, and lives in Southern California with her family and two dogs. She replaces Steven Cucolo, who stepped down after sixteen years of service on Animal Outlook’s board.
