Kraft Heinz Backing the ‘Future’ of Food: Plants!

Compassion Over Killing is urging Kraft Heinz, the parent company of meatless BOCA Foods, to kraft a better BOCA by ditching cruel dairy to make the brand vegan.

Quickly signed by nearly 44,000 people, our petition points out that BOCA is lagging behind its meatless competitors, such as Lightlife, that have gone vegan to meet consumer demand and move their product lines forward.

Now, Kraft Heinz seems to be acknowledging that plant-based is part of the food industry’s future, announcing its new Springboard Brands, which will back new plant-based companies and other startups.

Kraft Heinz isn’t the only major corporation backing plants. Tyson, the nation’s largest poultry producer, will soon debut plant-based bowls and invested in 100% plant-based Beyond Meat. Tyson increased its investment just a day after COK launched our petition urging Tyson to shift toward cruelty-free plant protein among other asks.

Asked about why Tyson invested in a plant protein maker, CEO Tom Hayes said, “If you can’t beat them, join them.” It looks like Kraft Heinz wants to join them, too.

Springboard Brands’ website cites “plant-based” among the things consumers are “increasingly looking for when fulfilling their family needs for a more balanced and healthy lifestyle.”

In 2009, BOCA took a promising step by dropping eggs from its products, after hearing from tens of thousands of supporters of a campaign by Compassion Over Killing and others. Yet, BOCA continues to use dairy in about 70% of its product line, despite the cycle of cruelty endured by dairy cows.

Help us continue to urge Kraft Heinz to take BOCA in a better direction — by ditching dairy for good! Sign and share today.
