Big news: Beyond Meat has unveiled its newest product, vegan chicken tenders. Largely known for its Beyond Burger, the company has also branched out to create meat-free alternatives including meatballs and sausages. Beyond Meat’s number-one competitor, Impossible Foods, has matched Beyond’s efforts with its line of beef products. However, Beyond is creating serious differentiation as they venture into the world of plant-based chicken. The breaded tenders pack a whopping 14 grams of protein coming from peas and faba beans, are GMO-free and contain almost half the saturated fat of regular chicken tenders.
Sixty billion chickens—yes, billion—are farmed for food around the world every year, a number which increased by 22% between 1996 and 2016 in the U.S., with far greater increases globally. In fact, more chickens are raised and killed for food per year than any other land animal. And the annual consumption of chicken meat per capita in the U.S. more than doubled between 1965 and 2012, going from 33.7 pounds to 81.8 pounds, based on U.S. Department of Agriculture data. With such a rising demand for chicken, chicken farming has expanded. But because factory chicken farming concentrates huge numbers of chickens in small areas, feces and manure production, sick and dead animals, microbial pathogens and feed additives take a toll on the environment. Greenhouse gas emissions per serving of poultry are 11 times higher than those for one serving of beans. This type of chicken farming contaminates soil and pollutes air and water, negatively impacting both human and animal health. Do chickens, yourself and the planet a favor and try Beyond’s Chicken Tenders or one of the many other vegan chicken alternatives a try.
Beyond Meat has been a leader in the plant-based meat industry since 2016. According to recent projections, Beyond Meat will exceed $1 billion in total revenue by 2023. So far, food chains including Next Level Burger, Fire Wings, Dog Haus, Epic Burger, and Sarpino’s Pizzeria are just a few of the nearly 400 restaurants that are already selling Beyond Chicken Tenders. Beyond Meat takes pride in offering delicious taste along with strong nutritional benefits, and Beyond Chicken Tenders are the latest example of their mission to create groundbreaking, tasty options that are better for animals, for people and for the planet. The company has not shared any plans to launch the product in grocery stores yet.
