There are few things more mouthwatering than the ooey-gooey goodness of a piping-hot piece of pie, hot out of the wood-fired oven – of course, we’re talking PIZZA pie! While October may be known for many things, (Halloween, fall, pumpkins) – it’s also National Pizza Month.

Pizza may traditionally be an Italian gift to the world, but the overwhelming possibilities that only pizza can offer is universal.  And here in America, it’s woven into our nation’s history: WWII soldiers, home from posts in Italy, brought with them their hunger for the flattened feast, and demanded it from their homeland. Since then, it has been the canvas for unending artistry in America!

And oh, the possibilities! Whether you like yours topped with Daiya cheese (and extra Daiya, please!) like Nicole, or topped with unique toppings like kale, nutritional yeast, fennel, or eggplant (all COK staff favorites!), the opportunities for pizza smiles are ENDLESS – especially when veganized and served with a side of compassion!

Here are some of the best places across the nation to get steamy slices for the whole cruelty-free family:

  • Cruzer – Los Angeles, CA
  • Paxti’s – Denver, CO (… & San Fransico & Seattle!)
  • zPizza – international locations (and gluten-free options!)
  • Mellow Mushroom – in ALL 50 states (and The District!)

And, if you’re looking for a dreamy crust to take home to create your own adventure, there’s always Bertucci’s, available up and down the East Coast.

Staying in? Two options: frozen or delivery? Tofurky’s got a great frozen pie, and  One Green Planet has an excellent guide on the ins and outs of ordering vegan from almost any pizza joint near you: you won’t want to miss it!

Unless you want the REAL pizza-at-home challenge: PIZZA CAKE.
