Egg-laying hens are forced to endure some of the most horrific abuses in animal agribusiness. Compassion Over Killing has long worked to defend these smart and social animals — from our legal advocacy that’s cracked open the truth behind “Animal Care Certified” egg labels misleading consumers, to many COK investigations exposing the painful reality for chickens raised for eggs and meat on factory farms.

COK campaigns have prompted companies like MorningStar Farms, LightLife and Boca to significantly reduce their use of eggs. Consumers, too, are now realizing eggs aren’t all they’re cracked up to be, and a new report from Future Market Insights shows that egg replacers are the future.

In fact, the global egg alternatives market, including powered egg replacers, eggless mayos, and more, will soar to more than $1.5 billion by 2026, with North America already accounting for a 48% share of that total market by the end of this year.

The report cites a carton-full of reasons why consumers are leaving eggs out of their shopping carts, including: increasing egg prices, awareness of preventative healthcare, and increasing demand for plant-based foods. It adds, “Manufacturers are focusing on production catering to rising consumer demands for vegan or vegetarian edible products and allergen-free products.”

The dairy alternatives market is also sprouting up, expected to reach $20 billion by 2020! So many consumers have ditched dairy that the industry has produced more milk than it can sell — so much so that it threw away 43 million gallons.

With so many egg-free options available, it’s easy to choose cruelty-free. We can help you get started at TryVeg.com.
