Dairy-free is in demand! In fact, as more and more shoppers opt for plant-based products, market research finds that dairy-free foods and beverages are topping the trend.
In a recent report, Nielsen found that as 39% of US consumers are actively trying to eat more plant-based foods, dairy-free cheeses and yogurts have had the most growth in sales, increasing by 45% and 31% respectively.
And Danone seems to have realized that catering to the soaring demand for dairy-free is the key to boosting its curdling sales!
The world’s largest yogurt producer has announced it’s considering plant-based yogurts while, as Bloomberg reports, “sales of dairy products are stagnating.”
Bloomberg adds, “Aiming to stem a years-long slump in yogurt sales, Danone is looking beyond the cow…It’s aiming to capitalize on the growth in veganism from niche diet to mainstream lifestyle choice, with even a brand as meaty as McDonald’s testing soy burgers.”
“The intent is that any offering in which consumers would like to have a choice between dairy and plant-based alternatives, we should make it available because the consumer is looking for it,” said a Danone rep.
Francisco Camacho, Danone’s Executive Vice President of Dairy and Plant-Based told Bloomberg that the non-dairy yogurt market is “rocketing forward” by up to 50% annually in the US.
With that outlook, and as consumers continue to ditch cruel dairy, you might see dairy-free Danone (and more vegan yogurt from other brands) on shelves sometime soon.
