A new year means you’ve got 365 new, fun chances to help make the difference you want to make in the world!

When it comes to living a more compassionate lifestyle, 2018 is the perfect time to start making some easy changes that can help make life better for all animals. And we’re here to help!

Here are some fantastic ways to embrace kindness in this awesome new annum:

Request vegan options at your favorite restaurants. From TGI Fridays to Red Robin to BurgerFI, all kinds of chains are adding vegan cuisine to their regular menus. If your favorite joint is still slacking on adding new options, however, bring it up. Have a chat with the manager (order Compassion Over Killing’s Restaurant Manager Cards to help get your talk started), be super friendly, and cite some stats about how everyone is adopting a plant-based diet these days (so the eatery can serve a growing market by adding options!).

Talk to people about how easy it is to be vegan. Showing others how fun and delicious vegan eating can be is one of the easiest ways to get people on board. Plant-based foods have gone totally mainstream. People like Miley Cyrus, Kyrie Irving, and Liam Hemsworth are all on the vegan team. Talk to your neighbors, co-workers, and friends about it in a friendly and totally easygoing way. Show them how tasty your vegan food is, and tell them about easy options like Beyond Meat, Gardein, and Daiya.

Sponsor an animal at a farm sanctuary. With sanctuaries popping up across the country, the options are endless to support those doing life-saving work. Use Patreon to support your favorite sanctuary, sponsor a specific animal (have you seen Flick at Rancho Relaxo? OMG!), or just donate whenever you can to support their good work. Through amazing animal ambassadors, these places are showing the world what farm animals are really like when allowed to be themselves — and how much they deserve our love and compassion.

Share the news that everyone is going vegan. From research firm Baum + Whiteman to delivery service Just Eat, EVERYONE is saying that 2018 is going to be the year of vegan food. The signs are everywhere that this is no longer just a small segment of the population, but a serious shift in the way people are eating. Be sure to share these articles and predictions via social media so people are inspired to give it a go!

Enjoy a meal at home. Restaurants and stores across the country are adding vegan options, so it’s easier than ever to enjoy an animal-free meal when dining out! But everyone loves a home-cooked meal, too, or staying in for a cozy night at home — and you can literally re-create any non-vegan meal you used to love. Just pick up the ingredients you need: more and more stores are stocking vegan meats, cheeses, milks, eggs, and more these days, so you can have burgers, meatloaf — even chicken wings. No need for deprivation on this diet!

Be kind to every animal you encounter. This may seem like an obvious one, but sometimes people tend to think of different species differently. But all animals are worthy of our love and compassion — and from wildlife to farm animals, they all want to live and love. If you meet a farm animal, remember that they have individual personalities, families, and deep emotional lives — and they’re worthy of just as much love and respect as the dogs and cats with whom we share our homes.
