Italian: This Southern European favorite encompasses some of the world’s most popular foods! From pasta to pizza. And, seriously, what would life be like without those?

While many of the traditional dishes are heavy on meat and dairy, delicious vegan versions of the most popular Italian eats are just as delicious as the originals — and better for animals, the environment, and your health, too.

So, here are six delectable dishes that’ll have you craving Italian for dinner tonight. And tomorrow. And maybe every night thereafter.

Vegan Gnocchi
Gnocchi is a pillowy potato pasta that’s basically the best thing ever. This version by Lauren Caris Cooks uses only TWO ingredients, so it cannot get any easier. Once you’ve got the pasta made, try her vegan gnocchi with arugula pesto and white beans recipe!

Best Damn Vegan Lasagna
Lasagna is amazing — just ask Garfield (or almost anyone). And this vegan version from Eat Within Your Means uses hearty marinara, vegan spinach ricotta, and savory cashew cream to create a flavor explosion.

Simple Vegan Pizza
Pizza is pizza, but who says it has to have a ton of cheese? This super-simple version from Minimalist Baker skips the traditional mozzarella and goes with a generous sprinkling of vegan parm, instead.

Spaghetti and (Vegan) Meatballs
The ultimate crowd-pleasing dish, spaghetti and meatballs is super easy to veganize. This version from Whole Foods Market uses jarred sauce and some totally tasty homemade meatless meatballs.

Vegan Eggplant Parmesan Bake
It’s eggplant season almost everywhere, so what better time to take advantage of perfectly ripe veggies than by making an eggplant parm? This uber-delicious layered dish uses eggplant, summer squash, tomato sauce, and an array of spices.

Vegan Lemon Fettuccine Alfredo
There’s nothing more deliciously indulgent than a heaping portion of fettuccine alfredo. This Food Network recipe uses eggless fettucine, soy cream cheese, lemon zest, nutritional yeast, and several other tasty inclusions to create a creamy, flavorful dish.

  1. Wow, I never thought that I can get vegan pizza from an Italian restaurant now that vegan cheese exists. I think I’ll visit one that can offer vegan options since I’ve recently gotten into vegan stuff. Hopefully, there are more choices I can pick from since I plan to eat healthy from now on.
