It’s not just the temperatures that are hot in DC. Our summer outreach team has been sizzling! In the last few weeks, COK’s dedicated volunteers and interns hit the streets giving away over 800 food samples and over 3,000 pieces of pro-veg
On July 4, thousands of people came out to celebrate at DC’s annual Independence Day Parade, and we were there sharing a message of compassion and freedom for all animals. Two days later, we stopped by DC’s popular Smithsonian Folk Life Festival to leaflet the large crowds while in Baltimore, four volunteers leafleted at Artscape, Baltimore’s biggest celebration of art.
To celebrate National Veggie Hot Dog Month, we heading out to the first game of the Mets vs. Nationals series, and gave away 400 veggie dogs along with 800 Veg Guides to DC and Compassionate Choices—in just 30 minutes! Join us when we do it again on Aug. 18th.
When the tremendously successful vegan test menu at Subway SOLD OUT, COK took to the streets to continue serving samples of the vegan riblets and asking Subway customers for feedback: “Wow, this is vegetarian?” and “This is so good! I can’t wait to get this at Subway!” We’re looking forward to even more positive comments when we do it again on Aug. 14th!
To celebrate a great month of outreach, some of our Baltimore and DC volunteers met up for brunch at the all-vegan restaurant Great Sage for a COK Benefit Day. We enjoyed an incredible meal of cinnamon buns, “jalapeno cheddar” biscuits and gravy, and vegan “crab cakes.” Afterward, we set up a table at the front of the restaurant to greet and thank all the patrons who came out to support COK—and we raised over $1,000 to fund our life-saving work for animals!
But that’s not all. Just last week we debuted the Fall 2012 edition of our popular Vegetarian Guide to DC! Hot-off-the-presses, this 40-page brochure is packed with a listing of 400 veg-friendly restaurants, bakeries, and food trucks in and around the nation’s capital. Request your free copy today at VegDC.com.
We’d love your help spreading compassion for animals. Whether you like to leaflet, dish out tasty vegan food samples, table, reach out to restaurants, or simply get together with like-minded animal advocates, we can make it happen! Check out our July highlights photo album on Facebook to be inspired, and then sign up for an upcoming August event or contact our Outreach Team to plan an event of your own. Together, we can create a kinder world for animals.
