The global pandemic is bringing to light animal agriculture’s insidious connection to human and animal suffering, further proving that the industries that make meat, egg and dairy products are highly exploitative, putting profit above all else. It’s time to end this cruel system once and for all.
With the COVID-19 pandemic straining nonprofit funding and with high-intensity animal agriculture causing the regular mutation and spread of viruses dangerous to both animals and humans, it is time for a paradigm shift. We as a society have tolerated the status quo of animal cruelty and its resulting impact on communities for far too long.
In the U.S. alone, nearly 10 billion animals are exploited and slaughtered every year. Most live short, miserable lives in overcrowded, filthy factory farms — breeding grounds for diseases, emerging pathogens and virulent strains of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Even facing the challenges of COVID-19, our vision remains clear: we’re fighting to change the world for animals and end the inhumane practices going on in these horrific death houses. And we can’t do it without you.
As people around the world begin to understand animal ag’s role in pandemics like these, few know how to attack the industry head on. But Animal Outlook has been fighting this fight for 25 years, and with your help, we will continue for 25 more.
Erica has served as President for Animal Outlook since 2005, after being an active volunteer starting in 2000. Since taking the helm, she’s taken the organization to new heights with continued growth and accomplishments for animals that include ending the egg industry’s use of the misleading claim “Animal Care Certified” and successfully persuading BOCA foods to stop using eggs. Vegan for more than 25 years, Erica has been working in the animal protection field since college. In 2013, she was honored with the prestigious Animal Rights Hall of Fame award.
