Even after we go vegan, it’s totally natural to crave the foods we grew up on, even if they involve animal products. After all, a lot of us were omnivores for decades before learning about veganism and deciding to adopt a more compassionate lifestyle! Though not everyone wants to emulate meat-like tastes and textures (and that’s ok!), it can often be helpful for people who are transitioning. Or, hey, some of us just love a good plant-based burger!
The good news is that it’s totally possible to recreate many of those foods without the cruelty, cholesterol, and climate impact. It’s easy to make a great veggie burger from scratch, or you can use various meat substitutes.
Here are a few meaty vegan recipes that might feel nostalgic–and are certainly substantial and filling.
