Are the golden arches of McDonald’s starting to crumble? The fast-food goliath just released its first quarter report for 2015, and its shareholders aren’t loving it.

As summed up on CNN, McDonald’s report reveals that “profits are crumbling, sales are shrinking and guest traffic is declining all around the world.”

In fact, McDonald’s is experiencing such “negative guest traffic in all major segments” that it plans to close at least 700 restaurants this year throughout the US as well as parts of Asia.

As a further example of the company’s struggles, in just the first three months of 2015, its profits tumbled by $400 million, which CNN describes as “a steeper pace of profit declines than all of last year.”  And the company is already suggesting that its financial report in April will likely reflect a continued downward trend in global sales.

So what’s next for McDonald’s? Perhaps it’s time for the company to take a progressive step forward by responding to the growing consumer interest in healthier and more humane meals.

Other fast-food giants — including Chipotle, Subway, and White Castle — are already adapting to consumer demand by offering popular plant-based options that appeal to vegans and meat-eaters alike.  Even McDonald’s in Canada gets it and recently rolled out veggie wraps.

Lend your voice to animals: Let McDonald’s know that more and more Americans are hungry for meat-free meals.
