Moo-ve over milk: Dairy-free is the coolest thing happening in frozen treats right now: from vegan ice creams by Ben & Jerry’s and Breyer’s to frozen yogurts at TCBY and PinkBerry, and more! This plant-based popularity is even boosting sales in an otherwise melting market.
VegNews reports that the ice cream industry has slumped in recent years, but the many innovative “free from” options, such as dairy-free and soy-free, pouring out nationwide have increased sales. The data comes from research firm Packaged Facts.
Ice cream makers are taking note of this trend and not skimming over non-dairy options. In fact, they’re milking this growing dairy-free demand and scooping out success:
Since introducing four popular vegan flavors last year, Ben & Jerry just surprised consumers with three new varieties now hitting stores: Cherry Garcia, Seven Layer Coconut Bar and Caramel Almond Brittle!
Two new flavors from Breyer’s quickly followed: Oreo Cookies & Cream and Vanilla Peanut Butter!
As the dairy industry tries to fight the soaring popularity of plant-based milks (Sign & share our Change.org petition today!), it seems big names in ice cream have realized that the growing market for dairy-free is here to stay!
