During the spring and summer months, community-based festivals pop up everywhere, and they offer amazing opportunities to reach out to others about the benefits of leaving animals off our plates. Last weekend, Compassion Over Killing staff and volunteers were hard at work in both Washington, DC and Los Angeles staffing educational booths at two popular events: Strut Your Mutt on May 21 and WorldFest on May 22.

FestivalsJust outside the nation’s capital, thousands of people — and hundreds of furry four-legged friends — came out to Strut Your Mutt and were greeted at Compassion Over Killing’s booth with free vegan cupcake bites along with pro-vegetarian literature.  After giving away over 100 vegan cupcakes bites, visitors continued to visit our table to take home our Easy Vegan Recipes and Vegetarian Guide to Washington DC as well as ask about animal-friendly food choices with dozens of people saying they’re finally ready to kick meat to the curb.

In Los Angeles, our volunteers set up an education booth at the 10th annual WorldFest in Los Angeles, touted as the world’s largest Earth Day festival.  At this 100% solar-powered event, which attracts thousands of eco-conscious festival-goers, COK distributed over 1,500 pieces of pro-veg literature, including our Eating Sustainably brochure and new Vegetarian Guide to Los Angeles. We also shared hundreds of free vegan cookie samples from Sun Flour Baking Company.
