The fifth annual US VegWeek kicks off in less than 2 weeks! This nationwide event, which begins on Earth Day (April 22), offers a fun and supportive way to explore the many flavors and benefits of vegetarian eating.
Thousands of people–including scores of lawmakers–have already agreed to take our 7-day pledge, and it’s not too late to sign up! Are you up for the challenge?
You’ll be in good company as millions of Americans, including former president Bill Clinton, Ellen DeGeneres, Mike Tyson, and John Salley (who is helping kick off VegWeek, see below for details) are touting the benefits of choosing plant-based foods.
With dozens of restaurants offering specials and over 100 events from coast to coast, there are so many reasons to give vegetarian eating a try–for your health, the planet, and animals.
Here are a few US VegWeek event highlights:
- On April 22 in Michigan: former NBA star and vegan advocate John Salley will be kicking off Ann Arbor’s full week of vegan events! He’ll be joined by Mayor John Heiftje who will issue a Proclamation making Ann Arbor VegWeek “official.” (More details available at Ann Arbor VegWeek.)
- April 23 in California: Author Colleen Patrick Goudreau will be in Oakland to give an inspiring and informative presentation on “Debunking the Myths of Veganism.”
- April 23 in Florida: Cinema Paradiso in Fort Lauderdale will host a screening of the award-winning film Vegucated. Free vegan food samples will be available.
- April 26 in Massachusetts: Animal rights philosopher and Animal Liberation author Peter Singer will be at Boston University discussing progress made for animals since the publication of his book in 1975.
Be sure to check out our map to find an event in your area–from Montana to Texas to Maine to Arizona to Nebraska and (almost) everywhere in between, you’ll find cooking demonstrations, vegan bake sales, potlucks, and much more. And check back often for updates as more events are added every day!
Can’t find an event in your community? Consider hosting one! We’ve got all the tools you need to get started.
We’re looking forward to celebrating US VegWeek with you–thanks for helping create a kinder, greener, and healthier world!
