Animal advocacy organization encourages everyone to try a vegan diet for seven days
Washington, DC – April 19, 2021: Leading national animal advocacy organization Animal Outlook is hosting its 12th annual VegWeek from April 19 – 25 in honor of Earth Day 2021. VegWeek, an annual campaign, empowers thousands of people to pledge to choose plant-based foods for at least seven days as a way to discover the many benefits and flavors of vegan eating.
“Every time we sit down to eat, we can stand up for the animals, our health, and the planet by choosing vegan foods,” said Cheryl Leahy, Animal Outlook’s executive director. “VegWeek offers a fun, supportive way to get started that welcomes everyone, regardless of their dietary preferences.”
Join Olympic medalist Dotsie Bausch, author Tracye McQuirter, MPH, filmmaker, former race car driver and climate activist Leilani Munter, elite powerlifter and champion boxer Vanessa Espinoza, best-selling author and athlete Robert Cheeke, actor and model Richie Kul, author and vegan chef Esther the Wonder Pig, dairy industry survivor Samuel the cow, and thousands of others for a week of plant-based eating April 19-25, 2021. Each day, you’ll receive an email with information, tips, recipes and more to support you on your vegan journey. And just by taking the pledge, you’ll be automatically entered to win one of many cool vegan prizes* from one of our generous sponsors.
Already vegan? Join us anyway and invite your veg-curious (or hardcore meat-eating) friends and family to take the challenge with you.
Animal Outlook held the first VegWeek in 2009 with inspiration from U.S. Congressman Jamie Raskin – then a Maryland Senator – who commented that a simple way each of us could help protect the planet is to choose vegan foods at least one week out of the year. Since Rep. Raskin represents the Maryland District where Animal Outlook is based, we reached out to him about his idea, and together we created the first-ever Takoma Park VegWeek celebration — and he was the first person to officially sign up for our seven-day VegPledge.
Energized by his vegan diet, which he refers to as “aligning my morals with my menu,” Rep. Raskin continues to encourage others to make kinder, greener, and healthier food choices — and he’s helped VegWeek reach thousands of people nationwide.
Congressman Raskin is in good company. Millions of people around the world are touting the many benefits of choosing more plant-based meals. Are you already one of them? Or are you curious about trying it out? Take the VegPledge today and join the conversation at our VegWeek Facebook Group.
