Dear Ms. Gonzalez,
I am writing to express my deep concern and outrage regarding Wild Fork Foods' sale of foie gras products across all 11 of your Southern California locations, which seems to be a violation of state law.
An investigation by Animal Outlook has thoroughly documented that Wild Fork Foods is openly selling foie gras products sourced from La Belle Farm in New York at every Southern California location, from Valencia to Encinitas. Yet California Health and Safety Code Section 25982 prohibits selling products resulting from force-feeding birds to enlarge their livers.
The production of foie gras represents one of the most egregious forms of animal cruelty in the food industry:
- Ducks and geese are force-fed through tubes inserted down their throats
- These birds endure multiple forced feedings daily for weeks
- Their livers are forced to swell up to ten times their normal size
- The process induces hepatic lipidosis—a disease state rather than a natural condition
- Birds suffer torn esophagi, fungal infections, respiratory distress, and premature death
I find it particularly disturbing that Wild Fork Foods appears to be marketing these products with misleading "humanely raised" claims. There is nothing humane about force-feeding birds until their organs are diseased and enlarged. Furthermore, reports that your staff claimed to have a "special permit" to sell foie gras in California are concerning, as legal experts have not found that any such permits exist.
I urge you to take immediate action by removing all foie gras products from your U.S. stores immediately.
Your response to this issue will demonstrate whether Wild Fork Foods is committed to operating as a responsible corporate citizen or is willing to profit from extreme animal suffering.
I look forward to your prompt action on this matter and would appreciate a response detailing the steps you will take to address these serious concerns.
